In Memory of Our Fallen Heroes
Hall 1
Long post alert
These corridors and hallways of McGinnis Wickham Hall…aka…Building 4 are lined with some of our fallen. Everyday that I walk them I reflect…you can’t help it when you know many of them..some in person…and some in passing within the very small Infantry community.
But there is one impartial photo that I gravitate to…often.
It’s the photo of CPT John Kurth.
Then 2LT Kurth who was a young Platoon Leader in B Co(Bno) 2/505 PIR.
82 Airborne was kinda goofy at times especially when all the PL’s were together…clowning around…but when It was time to Paratrooper up he was all in ..he had great character….mentorship and love for his men.
Sadly when I heard of his passing it hit hard …just like the other Warriors we’ve lost.
Fast forward to almost 20 years since his passing and I learn from his uncle…”an ole Bno Paratrooper himself”..that John’s Son is joining the Army…the Infantry…and is going to Airborne school… for whatever reason I didn’t catch him out on Sandhill or the 507th.
Then on a unit facebook post I saw where someone was asking about how to get a guy directly assigned to a unit…so Bno Brotherhood leaned forward to help…come to find out “that guy” was CPT John Kurth’s Son …PVT John Kurth trying to get into the same battalion …2/505 that his Dad was in….we sent one text message to a former 2/505 Paratrooper who happened to be the Division CSM. He made one call…and made it happen…Would you know that PVT Kurth made it to Bno..2/505 …3rd platoon…”Muldoons”.
Stepping further into his Dad’s footsteps now SPC Kurth headed back to Benning for Ranger school…tracking his progress until graduation..I couldn’t miss him this time…We linked up over some coffee…laughing at his Dad’s Bno shenanigans..and combat leader stuff..
He’s apart of the fold …the Bno fold …a strong band of brothers
Continue to rest well CPT Kurth …we got him
